Think the best suggestions so far have been a perimeter path at the base of Silbury, along with more and seriously better signage. Won’t stop the trespassing completely but it should reduce the numbers of people doing it and, as with seatbelts etc, may eventually become the norm.

The perimeter path really is a cracking idea. So simple, but very effective.
It strikes an important psychological balance. By being 'allowed' to be so close to the monument, I think a persons respect for it will automatically increase.
It is no longer a distant thing, unable to be engaged with.

Yes, you’ve put your finger on it there ED.

Next step is getting the beaurocrats at English Heritage to get off their butts and do it – open letters here and elsewhere maybe.

Are we talking about a perimeter path above the ditch and within touching distance of the hill or one set back further? Silbury needs to be viewed from further back I would have thought.
