Due to the pebbles in the conglomerate falling out when exposed to freeze thaw etc it is often suggested that they are "markings " . There is a stretch of hills just south of the Highland boundary fault all based on "Dunnotatr conglomerate " and rel rock art is entirely absent though either side on the sandstone there is plenty . Gets used for standing stones ,kerbs and stone circles though .
