Another common myth. The Nationality Act of 1948 specified that all nationals were both British citizens and subjects (while those from commonwealth countries were British Subjects). Although, the way our constitution works, it could be argued it was thus since the magna carta. I remember this becasue there was a minor hoo-ha at the time ofthe Citizen's Charter (mid-nineties?) as to whether Major was opening a door for republicanism caling it that.
