Wow! Amazing stuff. I've heard of the shipsettings before... n' I'm sure I've seen the decorated stones before too. They are fantastic!

There are lots similarities between British Rock Art and that across Europe too. The rock art of Galicia uses cup n' ring marks as well as depictions of stags (sometimes seemingly 'entering' the rock thru' the Cn'Rs), which suggests a spread of imagery along healthy trade routes across Europe. So it's entirely possible that the grooved rock on Ilkley Moor has some kind of link with those in Gotland, being on a major trade route across Britain between Ireland and Europe.

Richard Bradley's Book 'Rock Art and the Prehistory of Atlantic Europe: Signing the Land' is well worth a read for anyone interested in the history of Rock Art.
