A very valid point, but there's also the idea of no corners for evil spirits to hide in and/or everyone being equidistant from a central point if the stand around the edge and it's a round one rather than an eliptical one :-)

We have to assume that the builders knew how to make a rectangle, because the could make accurate trapezoids and circles, horse-shoe-shapes and ovals, so why not right angles?

I'm not sure why you decided to call your post pedantic?
