I came across a photo of an interesting looking circle with odd megalitho-like structures around it on Alamy.com, the caption says it's near Millstreet in Cork but I've never seen it before. It's possibly a modern contruction but can anyone identify it and its location?

Not knowing the area at all, I found this on http://www.churchtown.net/Webpages/thingstodo/prehistoric.htm

"Millstreet Country Park Stone Circle:

This stone circle and radial stone enclosure dates back to the late Neolithic and bronze age some 4000 – 5000 years ago. Unusually the park also contains a fullacht fiadh, a bronze age cooking site, this together with the park's many other historical treasures are interpreted by attractive colour on-site information panels and in the park's Audio Visual presentation centre."

Possible hit??

Hi Ken,

Do you have any images on Alamy.com? (or any other online picture agencies for that matter)

I've been thinking I should really submit some of my better images and see how they do - any thoughts?

If you want to take this off-list you can e-mail me on andy at stravaiging.com

Cheers

Well, got here at last, what a fantastic place! The park setting might not be to everyones taste but after the fiasco trying to get to Dunbeacon the night before it was great to have a well worn track and map to the circle and the entire park to myself, the otter and the deer.

This site is incredible, the eternal cynic in me kept muttering 'how convienient that it just happened to be there when they were creating the park...' but all seems above board and the gravel around the stones is not as much a distraction as I had imagined. This is a mini Beaghmore and it is still secluded enough on a quiet day, surrounded by trees but high enough on the hillside to have fantastic views.

The only dampner was some passing showers and the €15 fee per car which is pretty steep if you ar ehere on your own. The driveway from the road takes about five minutes by car and the circle takes another 15 mins to walk so be warned if you decide to park outside the gates.
