I was passing through Dunloy village on the way to Craigs Dolmen (sic!) when I stopped to have a look at their tourist info map. Beside the map is a small recess with two carved stones and an 'ogham' stone. It looks like it could be modern, it also has strange dark grey cement like stuff on the carved areas (looks like the same stuff used to glue craigs passage tomb's capstone back together). The sign beside it gave avery brief description of what ogham was but nothing specific about the stone. Anyone know for sure if its the real thing? Google wasnt much help...

here's a photo:

Craigs is sweet and odd isn't it. There's a mighty court tomb up on the hill above that I keep meaning to get to, but it's miles from any road!

That ogham stone looks very new to me. The markings are too narrow and not worn enough. Even ones that have been protected by being inside or buried for a long time don't look that good. They look machine cut.

What can be seen says LARATE, which doesn't sound like part of any inscription I've ever heard of.

(love your Haroldstown & Ballymacdermot-by-headlight images btw!)
