Can anyone confirm there will be free access to the Stones on the morning of Monday 21st December?

Can't find a bloody thing about it on the net.

Cheers!

There never seems to be any info till the last minute, it's not like they encourage people to turn up is it.

Have a look at the Stonehenge Druids website for more information, as listed under the Stonehenge links section of TMA.

Problems about the use of the Droveway may be resolved by the time of the solstice, otherwise this ancient trackway may be closed down for good.

The plan I'm working to at the moment is Managed Open Access on the morning of 22 December. Just as the Managed Open Access for the Autumn Equinox was on the morning of 23 September, the sunrise following the autumn equinox date of 22 September. Having said that I know people will be gathering on 21 December to request access to the stones. My plan is subject to change up the moment before lol.

The bards site pointed at by Andy Chance is actually for a ticketed early Winter Solstice event on 13 December.

I emailed English Heritage, and they had this to say....

"Good day Maelwen,
The Winter Solstice celebration is usually much lower in key than the Summer celebration. Usually there is a Managed Open Access between about 7.30am until 9.00am, weather permitting. This year it will be on Monday 21st December 2009. There are upwards of 100 people for this and no booking is required. No parking is offered though. Please see www.english-heritage.org.uk/stonehenge or possibly www.english-heritage.org.uk/wintersolstice in due course for further information.

Helen"

I'm making the trip that morning from Bristol with my father. It will be my first visit to Stonehenge, I'm very excited!

I went on the off chance on Thur 16th and got access into the stones at sunset see http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/81786/fieldnotes/stonehenge.html
and http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/latest/0/3/

I hope the Artistic ones are acceptable, I wanted to keep that mysterious feeling.

While I was chatting to the various archaeos there I heard a strange whisper.....When they were examining the site of the new VC at Airmans Corner geofiz and a trial trench came across a mini woodhenge on the site of the carpark! Anyone know more about this?
Jim.

On the BBC's "England" homepage today (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/default.stm):

Nice pic of the celebrations (is there anyone we know in the photo, I wonder?):
