Probably the best-known, least understood prehistoric monument in Europe. Have the latest excavations allowed a test of prehistoric mindsets and motivations? Or are they the latest in a series of powerplays amongst prehistorians? Healing, or elite strategies? And what's all this about an interpretation centre - interpreting what; and on whose behalf? We'd all like to know - and not some spun line on behalf of English Heritage and/or the National Trust!
