Hi Eds/All

Not sure if this site has been mentioned before...

A large round barrow excavated in 1913... some references give Romano-British period (since Roman coins were apparently found), some Late Iron Age. The local info board is inconclusive. However, assuming it's a given that Romans were known for making coin offerings in existing monuments (as I recall there was a recent Time Team episode), should this be included as a 'possible'?

The Essex HER only mentions Roman finds. I realise that barrows are quite a 'native' idea but it seems no burials were found. So as it's not clear it's even a barrow, perhaps it's not a suitable addition here.

TMA Ed.

Thanks for the link. Not used that portal before.

Guess until someone can get a sample from the original surface beneath the mound we're never going to know.
