Anyone been here?

close

Hello, friends, and greetings from New Zealand.
Arrived safe and sound - still jet-lagged, but recovering.

Before we left last Wednesday, we had a week at Ma and pa's over in Cornwall at Kelly Bray, just outside Callington. Discussing stoney things (as I am prone to do) it was mentioned that there is a henge just outside Callington. Ears pricked and senses alerted, I have looked on multimap and the aerial photo looks like this:
http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=237500&Y=68500&width=500&height=300&gride=237000.000025623&gridn=68499.8958286809&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=grid&pc=&zm=0&scale=10000&left.x=7&left.y=96

Get a map (OS site) has it at: SX370685.

It's in the horseshoe-shaped field.

Anyone been there or know anything else about it? Mr Hamhead? Lubin? Goff - there's a Holy Well just across the road.......

Hope you're all well - I'm off to bed (it's 23.40 here!)

Peace

Pilgrim

Glad you arrived safely.

Wowser that's a real doozie of a field! And looks like a monster henge too. I love spotting those when browsing the aerial photos.

Never been. Never even heard of it. Thanks

Glad you made it safely!!

http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/720 is the site you're looking at I believe?

Arrr! That be the Dupath Holy Well! A beauty of a wellhouse, that one!

Cured my whooping cough good and proper. ;o)

Actually - the water didn't look too clean when we were there, and as it's down a slope from a load of cows, I would be wary of ever tasting it! The very thought of drinking from it would be enough to cure most diseases, I reckon..!

I know bugger all about the henge though - will look it up next tiem we're down that way...

Nice to see ya here, mate! You didn't hang about, did you?

Sorry, missed this one..

Just to confirm that as yet I have not been to Castlewhich. Been past it many a time, it is just off the main Saltash Callington road. But it is one of those sites that is on private land, in the middle of a field, and there aint many places you can pull off the road. Do I need anymore excuses to say I haven't visited somewhere that was only a mile down the road from somewhere I worked for two years?

Enjoy NZ Pilgrim, blue sky and sunshine in Cornwall this morning.
