Does anyone know what time the sun rises on the solstice please. I carnt remember. Anybody else going to castlerigg for the solstice?
Cheers Si
ps its the saturday morning isnt it.

Well, at Stonehenge (where I hope to be), the sun rises at 4:51am BST, so at Castlerigg it could be a minute or two either side of that.

There`s been some argument as to whether it should be celebrated on Saturday 21st or Sunday 22nd, this year.

I`ve finally come to the conclusion that it`s down to your own personal opinion. Both days are equal in length.

The vast majority will be celebrating on the 21st, so if you want to join the crowd, go on the Saturday morning. If you would prefer it to be quieter, then Sunday would be better.

Hi Si,
I'll be there if I can drag my eight year old lad and his mate out of their sleeping bags at two in the morning.

according to this,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1387&links
this week the sun will be mostly rising at about 4:35.
So it won't be far off that.

May be there for the Sunday morning. I know it's been metioned before, but can anybody advise on the access to the site over that weekend - do they close the road in the evening (it's not as if there's a lot of parking space there anyway)
Also won't the sunrise be delayed by the position of the hills?
