Hello I am Jim and am new to this site.
I recently went to the solstice celebrations at Stonehenge with a Buddhist walk organised by the Buddhafield people (who run the festival of the same name). I walked the last part from Avebury to Stonehenge with a group of about 24 people. The walk itself was in silence (don't worry we talked during the breaks!).
We planned and carried out a few of the following things at the celebrations.
1. Meditated as a group, in a circle near one of the station stones.
2. Touched with the open palm of the hands the Heel Stone
3. Some of us even found our way to the Altar Stone and did the same.
4. We completed a symbolic 'sun' or 'clockwise' circumambulation of the stones.
4. Watched the sun come up with Arthur Pendragon's druids.
6. At dawn some of the group did a 'dance of life' taught by one of the more druidic members by the Heel Stone. This was described as sort of New Zealand Maori 'Hakka-like' dance. I didn't take part in this.
7. Proformed a closing meditation as a full group.
Apart from the meditation, not everyone in the group did all the activities. but it gave us a range of things to do.
*Please note I had gone to the same celebrations in 2003 with my wife and small child and just watched the sun come up. This time I wanted to be more actively involved in the solstice. Hopefully, I can include some photos on your photo pages when I can work out how to do it.
Did anyone else on this site proform any other rituals at Stonehenge at the solstice? I would be really interested to know if you did and what you may think about the above.
