Are there any monuments marking the other stars in Orion?
Like Sirius?

Consider the scale of the monument - and how long ago it was built. (It's taken this long to check it). Also bear in mind that the sky has changed substantially in four and a half thousand years. The Pole Star now wasn't the northern star then. The perspective may have changed. So I would say 'probably'.

Trouble is that there are more than 3 henges on the Ure Swale plateau
So where do Cana, Hutton Moor and Nunwick fit into the stella picture?

Personnally, I'm pushing my own theory, which is of course based on nothing more than this week's whim, the large henges at Thornborough represent the Temple of the Triple Goddess and her three northern tribes
or possibly a bunch of late Neolithic Tykes showing the Cumbrians and the Wessex Folk that we can build bigger and better.

and another thing
When I look at Orions Belt I see a horizontal feature running across the waist of Orion, surely the Thornbro' henges are a vertical feature in relation to every single landscape feature in the area i.e. the 2 rivers, the road, the cursus, the Pennines, The Hambledon hills, The NYM
If you get my drift.

OK I've been quietly browsing these 'astro' posts but I have questions...

So what? I mean what IS Orion? Why would they want to copy it? Why not another star feature?

From a young age we are taught about the plough and it pointing to the north star. But Orion? Does it point to another feature or direction?

Why that constellation and not another? Cos it looks like a man, vaguely?
Do we really know they interpreted it as?
Hmmm.

I think I'm with the Too Good to be True brigade on this one!

I think it's more likely the three henges were supposed to be in allignment and it went astray, due to eg the lie of the land or ownership or foggy weather or wonky eyesight...
