Rock Art found?

close

I was talking to someone yesterday that said that while they were visiting Cairnholy, the farmer uncovered a large slab of fantastic rock art in one of his fields. He then said he wasn't sure what the farmer would "do with it".
The bloke I was talking to knew a bit about rock art etc, enough to appreciate it, but didn't seem concerned about its loss... anyway I wondered if anyone knew of any recent discoveries in that area.
Unfortunately I'm not sure when it was found (but I suppose the last couple of years maybe)

Hi RN ,
Don't know if this is the right one but there have been a few new discoveries in the Kirkcudbright area , don't have the grid refs but I think they were in the MOD area around Kirkcudbright Bay , about 12 miles S.E. of Cairnholy .

Hi Rocknicker!
Good to hear/see you. Hmmm..... rock art adventures, he?
Skipp the 'bloke'; lets go for the farmer! Was it the owner/tenant of the Cairnholy fields?
It would be nice if we/you/tiompan etc. could talk with that man.
Anyway, the latest find in Dumfries and Galloway was made by the farmer of Broughton Mains Farm; http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/30398.
He found the decorated stone in an old fieldwall and displayed it behind the gastank in the farmyard. As far as I know the stone isn't reported yet.
Take a look there when you go to Ayrshire, Wigtown or Ireland!
Have a great summer.
Cheers,
Jan
