I've enjoyed following the Avebury digs at

Looks like we are going to find out just how long the Beckhampton Avenue could have been. If it did indeed go all the way to Fox Covert, then that means (by my crude calculations) that if you wanted to walk the avenue, from the Sanctuary to the circle, then to Fox Covert, it would be a three and a half mile journey?
Wow, they weren't kidding when they built Avebury, were they?

Hi Harv,
I update the site at lunch time and late in the evening.
Lots of interesting things emerging in the trenches.
At first glance it looks like the avenue finished at the Cove.
(Avebury CD will be in the post for you anyday now so you should get it by the weekend,)

It is looking more and more like a cursus!
Various archao bods came for a look today and most think it probably is. Its defo man made but there have been no finds at all within the ditch so at the moment it is undateable.
It runs from almost due East to west and appears to start at Folly hill above south street long barrow and points towards Knoll down.
