A synopsis of the lecture given by Jim Leary, the English Heritage archaeologist responsible for the recent survey on Silbury Hill, held yesterday at the Wiltshire Heritage Museum, is now available here - http://www.eternalidol.com/?p=6179

Much of interest, but perhaps also recognition of what many of us have thought for some time - that the sarsen 'chunks' found alongside pieces of antler represent dead ancestors.

It was a great lecture.
Jim Leary and David Field have a book coming out in October entitled The Story of Silbury Hill with the Foreword by David Attenborough. The monograph will be published in 2011.

The Wiltshire Heritage Museum has announced an exciting new find of, "...letters written in 1776 about excavations at Silbury Hill and published for the first time in the new volume of the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Magazine."

If I was going to build my own stone circle, I'd stick a pole in the ground and tie a bit of string to it to mark out my circle. Then I'd observe whatever observations I wanted to mark, and stick another pole where that alignment was to replace with a stone later. Idiots Guide to Building Stone Circles...
