A complete sell out!
Brian Edwards gave a thorough account of previous excavations and told the story of the Missing Lukis drawing of 1849 which he recently found in a Guernsey museum.
He also found a missing text of a local mans account of the original 1776/7 Drax excavation. He said he looked into the tunnel and saw wood piled up pole on pole (?)
The talk was full of intereting slides both old and new.
Amanda Chadurn EH inspector of Monuments had the last word saying the results of the 3D tomography scan were in and need to be analysed and double checked before being released to the public.
The Radio Carbon dates are back from the antler tyne found during the limited excavation on top of the hill.
The dates of the calibrated range is 4420 years ago, but unfortunately this result is one of those where the curve has more than one peak. The three peaks are at about 4360 years ago, 4410 and 4460: at the moment any one of those is as likely as the other.
This means that Silbury is in fact older than Avebury.
I will put a full account on my web site sometime this week.
