I've just posted this direct to the Britarch list on behalf of Heritage Action. It's rather long, but Silbury deserves it. Basically, we've tried to lay out the issues relating to how the repairs are to be chosen in as clear and truthful fashion as possible and called for a wide and fully informed public debate. That's something the situation warrants.

You could say that the fate of the poor old girl is now in the care of the community, which is better than simply being cared for by her guardians I guess.
The story from now on is likely to be technically very complex and beyond meaningful comment by amateurs, so it may well be that we have no further useful role to play beyond hoping that a sufficient number of well qualified and well-connected people will now take a keen interest in what happens next. A continuing interest by everyone else is probably also in Silbury's interest though. We aren't talking of a potential loss of just a few cubic metres here.
