"English Heritage today announced that they are scaling back their activities in respect of conserving Silbury Hill. A spokesperson said that this was due to the recent discovery of a smaller version of the mound by a local man called Pete. As this second mound will be easier and less costly to protect, it has been decided to focus EH activities there instead. Pressed on what would happen to the larger mound, the spokesperson said that EH would continue to keep a piece of string around the perimeter at a height of four feet to keep trespassers off."

Just to bring this back to the top really, and alert any regulars and lurkers alike that the Silbury demo on Saturday WILL GO AHEAD despite what EH have published on their website (just 4 days before the demo!) in reponse to Heritage Action's demands. (And despite the weather forecast.)

Yesterday I drove passed with my 4 year old daughter who said "Look the thing has gone at the top of Silbury! Is is fixed now?"
If she thinks that what do other visiters think?

I wish you all the very best for this Saturday.. unfortunately I won't be able to make it and I'm bitterly disappointed.

I'm still in correspondence with Dr Kevin Brown of EH, but to be honest with you I think I'm just being given the run around.. mind you it is fun annoying him with questions! :o) Will pass all my letters and so on to Goffik at some point, they may be handy if you are keeping a file and stuff.....

Anyway, I'm with you in spirit on Saturday...

ps: Just something for Lord Lucan if he passes: Prune only when the hedge is forcing the elderly to walk in the road into oncoming traffic! :o)

See you all there tomorrow! Go to bed now so you won't be tired...

I'll be the overweight bald one with an inane grin on his face. Actually - I'll be wearing me TMA badge too! hahaa!

An excellent day, I think!

One of it's highlights, for me, was when Nigel's EXCELLENT talk was interrupted by a heckler that thought Nigel was one of EH! Sometimes, you can scrub up that bit TOO well, eh, Nige? ;o)

What a nice bunch of people. I'm proud to be associated with HA. Good work!

And it didn't rain! Well, a few splashes. Beautiful weather... I actually got a sunburned noggin! Ow! Didn't expect nice weather! :(
