Just started my 3-monthly catchup on posts and saw this. How big is the tool on the right & is it just used for marking?

I've no idea what it was used for. I assumed it was for making holes in leather, or something like that. As for the size of it, I reckon 4 inches wide at the most (that's very approximate).
