Stones with names?

close

I see that an Avebury main circle stone has been vandalised. I think I know where the stone is, but never knew it was referred to as the 'Broken Heart' stone.
I wonder how many Avebury stones have been given names over the years? I know the 'Devils Chair', (the one you can sit in by the south entrance), the ‘Barber-surgeon stone’, the 'Alter' stone (not far from the broken Heart one I think), and of course the ‘Swindon Stone’ and ‘Adam And Eve’
Any other names? I’m sure there must be more!

Isn't that 'altar' rather than 'alter'?

Pete G is really the man to answer this one. He's knows far more than most about Avebury.

The Avebury Cove was once known as The Devils Branding Iron's and the possible Kennet Cove was known as the Devils' Quoits.
The long barrow north of Avebury was named the Shelving stones and the large stone blocking the Kennet long barrow was named Eric (or did I dream that one?) ;)
