ive just read with alarm the post regarding willful damage to the stone(s) in Avebury.does anyone know what stone was targeted ?.i have visited Avebury for many many years and this is the first time ive known of any such attack.i find the circle to be a very spiritual place and visit often,i do get upset when i see melted wax from candles dripped over stones,i fully understand that people find Avebury to be a place of homage,indeed im one of them ,but i refrain from using candles,wax lasts for many years,i dont believe Avebury should be fenced off like stone henge but i fear it will happen.i think perhaps the time has come for a full time warden to be appointed in order to keep a sharp eye on the circle,we after all are only its guardians,i would like to think it will remain standing for many generations to come.its a sad fact that todays society is full of greed and selfishness with no regard for respect.
