Falkner’s Circle

Waylen?

close

Rhiannon,
On AC Smiths 1883 map the area from Waden hill towards the ridgeway is named as Waylen hill - Weedon hill and Waden hill.
Stukeley never spotted the Falkners circle but in the next field he did make another discovery,
"In a close on the left hand of the avenue, or east of it, not far from Abury town, is a pentagonal stone laid flat on the ground, in the middle of which is a basin cut, always full of water, and never overflowing. The country people have a great regard to it: it proceeds from a spring underneath and for ought I know, it may have been here from the foundation of our temple."

The holed stone is not in situ but is now near the farm yard entrance,

Pete, as ever you are a mine of information. And that's interesting about the other stone too (you mean the farm towards West Kennet?).

Wasn't there a cove originally somewhere down the west Avenue too? or am I hopelessly confused now.
