Callanish 40

Hi - long time since I have been on this site. In the first week of September, my new fully illustrated book will be published by Islands Books Trust. 'Archaeological Adventures on the Outer Hebrides' is a sort of memoir of my time on Lewis, 1974-1984, when with Margaret (later Curtis) we made ground-breaking discoveries about the Callanish Stones. These included the finding and re-erecting of Stone 33A, the replacement of the lost tip of Stone 19, and the finding of several additional megaliths in the surrounding countryside. We also got involved in other aspects of the island's archaeology; I acted as a go-between with the National Museum when peat cutters found a Bronze Age axe - amazingly with its wooden handle. I retell these and many other stories from a personal point of view and mention discoveries that have been made in more recent times.

Hi, just read your post with great curiosity. I used to post here regularly several years back. Your name was often mentioned with a certain measure of reverence, along with Margaret's of course. In 2013 (seems so long ago) I fulfilled a long held wish to visit Lewis - facilitated with help from a very good friend. We met Margaret (and some of her cats). She was by then on her own and we were very grateful for the time she spent with us around the Callanish stones. - A couple of days later she spent more time with us when we drove to Harris. Needless to say was very sad when I heard she had died.
Am interested in buying your book, both for myself and the good friend I mentioned. You haven't said how much it costs - I'm sure I can find out but it might be helpful for other people.

Best wishes

Looks like an essential purchase to me.
