Hello Mr Hunter,

I know what you mean about the Hanging Stones in your field notes, I thought exactly the same. However, I'm a little more convinced about their antiquity these days, mainly because of Fitz's post

& in PRAoWR they state, "W end was turf covered, until stripped for quarrying in the 19th century" & the sharp carving is at the west end.

Cheers Rich,

That puts my mind at rest..I knew they were okay, but i had something in the back of my mind.

much obliged.. i'll send you the grid ref & pics for the other ones i mentioned to see if you know anything more about them.

I tried to get a copy of "Prehistoric rock art in the west ridings", seems to be out of print, do you know any place local that might have a copy?..i tried a couple of place in Ilkley, no joy..
