Hi Stu

Please excuse my ignorance but I've just come across this site while planning a trip to my local Peak District to take in some of the more obscure sights. (Unfortunately I'm guilty of sticking to the show sites like 9 stones, doll tor, stanton moor, arbor low to satisfy the patience of a bored girlfriend!)

Anyway I digress, you mention in your fieldnotes of 2006 that the stone was underthreat form an extension of the quarry and I wondered if you could confirm if it is still there or not?

Also as you seem like one of the local experts on the area in your opinion are there any other must sees on a single day trip? I was thinking Gardoms Edge, Carl Walk but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers in advance

Gwass

Gardoms edge is well worth a visit, rock art, enclosure, standing stone. !
The Barbrooks just around the corner, Holymoorside cup marked stone. : )

Hey up,

Yeah the Bradstone is still safe....I think the murmurs in Wirksworth a coupla years back were related to the quarry wranglings at Stanton...something to do with how many years a quarry can remain dormant and then be re-opened without to much hassle.

Gardom's Edge is a must see and wth Gibbet Moor and Barbrook/Big Moor just around the corner you can fit quite alot into a day.

The Bradstone is a good half hour's drive from the Eastern Moors but if you find yourself in that area then there's the graves at Minning Low and Green Low, caves at Harboro Rocks and Longcliffe Crags, Ivet Low, Gallows Low, the Roystone Valley.

nice one
