Making a thread vanish isn't a great form of moderation. I joined a public forum to try and get along with a variety of people in challenging discussions. Smaller, private forums might be cosier, and more comfortable, but I wanted to be outside my comfort zone. If I was moderated for something I said, I'd like to know why, so I can improve.
Perhaps something was added that was libelous, and a disclaimer from the site doesn't cover them unless they remove such items as soon as they are brought to the attention of management, though. I seem to remember something in the thread about parties suing one another at one point.
Oh well, if I want to contribute to the common knowledge, and be ruthlessly moderated, I can always go back to posting on Wikipedia, where I can try and do an improved rewrite.
