Milestones

close

Probably a bit outside the scope of TMA, but this site is a gazetteer of milestones throughout the country.

A different kind of standing stone :)

Cheers for this, PMM!

I think this *is* way outside the remit of the site, but I gotta admit I do like a good milestone! I look forward to a good butchers at that site later...

Does anyone know of any that are very obviously (or that you strongly suspect, at the very least) re-used standing stones? Just to keep it on-topic, like! ;)

Actually, that's a REALLY nice little site! Cheers again, PMM!

This is an interesting one, tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Coate, technically part of Swindon, Wiltshire; very close to Coate Farm where Richard Jefferies grew up and lived for much of his short life.

It stands unseen by the thousands of cars that speed by on the dual carriageway leading to Junction 15 on the M4. The road it stands on is the original 'road out of Swindon' leading to Marlborough and Hungerford ... little more than a lane by today's standards.
