could anybody help me, by giving me any information on solomans temple on withnel moors. ive seen the old ruin. i cant find any information at all on why its called solomans temple. id be really greatfull for all info. thank you.

could be because it's a ruin up a hill, and people used to read their bibles and like romantic things?

I found this on a geocaching site (spit)
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=006d6823-4be2-419d-8495-de1288e73ff1
which suggests the locals used to take enervating walks up here on a sunday and get a bit of sunday school at the spot.

but if no-one here turns out to know any better, I'd say get down the local studies library and see if someone can help you there...

It sounds very sectarian, probably 17th or 18th century but there are stones up there ?

Wasn't Solomon's the first temple on the Mount of (?nothingness?) in Jerusalem? Weren't the Holy Wars about releasing this place from the grip of the Saracens? The concept has probably travelled through time via freemasons and similar loops. The Knights Hospitaller of St John owned some land to the south of Brinscall, certainly, at around that time. From them, in Bolton, we've got Celtic Heads (arguably) and the placenames Holy Harbour (arbour) and Temple Road. It's not much to go on. The rotten Knights adopted a prehistoric site in Bolton so may have done the same to the north - here's a link to a picture of the place ( ). Preston Library is a good starting place!

thank you, for all replies
