Anyone thinking of going to some of the Western Isles e.g. Lewis ,Barra etc will be pleasantly surprised to find that some of the routes are halving prices due to a Scandanavian style subsidy .Not applicable to Orkney or Shetland , yet .
A few years ago, a major ferry company ran a special offer for struggling farmers wanting to bring livestock from Orkney, to Scotland
Instead of the regular Charge of £100, farmers taking stock to market on the Scottish mainland only paid £6.
Strangely almost every car getting onto the ferry had a couple of sheep in the back.
