I have long collected bits of stone pebbles and the like; I found a piece of flint in Kent. This is about 8cms by 6cms and is roughly the shape of India. The back is all chalk and the front white flint surrounding grey/ brown nothing unusual there. But there is a 2.5 cm crater like hole that is full of tiny crystals that are clear and very reflective, giving off rainbow like colours. It’s like a gem has been plucked out and left bits in the crater. I have a photo of it and would be very grateful if someone out there could tell me what this crater could be made of ? the crystles are about size of grains of sand

Hiya Snap,

I'm no expert but could it be some quartz? It's a silicate like flint.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who collects odd bits of stone!
