Refering to the article on Wholestone or locally known as 'Rocking Stone' or Druids rock.. I am pleased to inform you that the rock is still there. If you look on the 1854 map you will see the location of the rock just off the old lane running from Old George road or now Rochdale Road...There is now a row of cottages near the stone.. built c. 1860's... There is an altar and main vertical stone..... The site has been documented in family papers since the 11/1200's.

The site is very unique locally.. mystical, atmospheric, the ould days have never gone!!!

WOW!!! Really!!?? I've never been over to check the place as a couple of local history writers told it to have been destoryed. Have you got any piccies about it? Are you sure it's actually the Whole Stone? If so, I've gotta get over and have a look in the next week or so.

I like the way you describe it. Sounds very good indeed... Why not stick some field-notes about the place on here?

Cheers - Paul
