...because I never come across one.

I'd like to use a real word, and not the Eisteddfordd one (gorsed?).

I am aware stone circles are unusual in Wales, and there might not be a real word but a more recent "that'll do" equivalent.

Standing Stone = maenhir
Stone row = saith maen
Stone circle `=

Thoughts?

I think the term 'cylch cerrig' means stone circle. You'll find the word cylch, meaning circle, in a lot of site names.

The rusty sign at Gors Fawr stone circle reads:

Obviously things change, but it's interesting to note that the modern Welsh (I think) for 'Stonehenge' is 'Cor y Cewri' (Giant's Choir'?), but I would like to know not only why 'choir', but whether or not Cor y Cewri is applicable to other stone circles, or if stonehenge was titled exclusively so.

sheeps arse, aint it?

Speaking as a fluent Welsh speaker and a person with an avid interest in everything Megalithic I can confirm that the most usual term for stone circle in Welsh is 'Cylch Cerrig'.

Both Maen and Cerig mean stone but would be used in different contexts.

Hope that answers your question :-)
