Bowing Out

close

Of late I've been pretty apathetic about getting my arse out to the stones. Not sure why this is but I am sure it will be just a short phase. To help me sort myself out I'm taking a break from it all. I have far too much other stuff going on at the moment (nothing bad - just other stuff that takes up my time) to put as much effort into going out so frequently.

Those that know me will know that I'll find it impossible to stay away from the rocks altogether. I will still make the odd trip out and I'll keep megalithomania ticking over in the meantime, adding stuff as I do venture out, book reviews etc. I will certainly keep an eye on the posts of the Irish TMA contributors and will be following them to any cool sites when I can, so keep them coming!

Hopefully something will happen that will light that spark and I'll be back into mad-mode once more. Perhaps it will simply take the coming of Spring!

Anyway, until whatever it takes happens, I bid you all a temporary farewell. No doubt I'll pop in from time to time in between. For those of you going to Wolverhampton and Bristol I'll see you at the gigs. For those of you I natter with by email and elsewhere I'll catch you there.

Ride On!!

Tom

Aw, FW!

How about the alignments at Callanish in 2006?

Hope it all goes well, and hope to see you back before too long... There goes another voice of reason! :(

Well old friend (and old adversary ;-) take the road that looks the fairest. Hope to meet up with you one day over a pint of something good.

Best wishes.

Littlestone

I'm afraid it's not as simple as bowing out. Not, for instance, until you've explained more about what bullauns were for. I had some questions in the pipeline...

Take care then, matey, have fun and I looking forward to a big hairy hug in Bristol!

Jeez what a Lightweight!

take it easy fella

We never did meet, but I will always remember your kind offer to take me around a few Dublin sites on my visit there.

I've been writing a single county guide on and off for 2 years, and my last field trip it really was a drag to get out into the wilds and slog it out there for hours on end mopping up the last of the stragglers (of which there are still many).

So, yeah, take a break. Hopefully it'll all still be there when you get your menhir-mojo back.

I'm not going to massage your ego by posting to this thread.

Let us know if you find something else to obsess about. I for one am sick to the back teeth of standing stones etc. so any suggestions as to what we should be 'spotting' next would be gratefully received.

Take Gentle Care T4W, go and find the spark you need.
Have a safe and interesting Journey,

Rune

Sorry I never made it over FW, one day when time allows...hopefully you will be refreshed by then and you won't mind showing me some of the sights...

meanwhile if you get back to Cornwall..

all the best

Mr H

Respect Tom and thanks for all your support and help over the years.
Pete

Really sorry to hear you taking a break. I have to be honest and say that without megalithomania I would never have rediscovered my love for the stones that I had as a kid.
So what would get u back out there, I know of some pretty mad stuff down in Tipp and its surrounds!

Hey Mr F!
I can totally see where you're coming from, if you never stop you forget why you started. Never let your passion become a chore I reckon,
Enjoy a hard earned rest and see ya soon,
Love,
Mark

I'm sure that I speak for most here when I thank you wholeheartedly for the time and effort you have expended over the years in bring us the staggering wealth of ancient monuments in that island of yours. You are an inspiration to us all. Pause, get your breath back, then, when you're ready, amaze us again.
In awe, Jim.

expect him to resurface with a new project along the lines of 'compulsivetropicalfishandguitarsobsessive.com' anytime now ;-)

Just find one or two sites - and stick close to them (because nobody else will) ...

Pff. Sorry to hear this 4W. But that's only my own selfishness really. Perhaps you'll find you'll be thinking all sorts of stoneish thoughts even though you're not at the stones (as I do). So I hope you'll feel motivated to share those with us if you have them??

Anyway. How many more sites CAN there be in Ireland? The mind boggles.

here's to snow and Spring
Rhiannon

Hi Tom
New experiences are the spice of life, be a greedy bugger and get as many as you can. And if you ever find yourself in Derby I'd love to buy you a drink.

>I am sure it will be just a short phase.

How short? Has it passed yet? ;)

All the bestest t'yer Mr FW, glad to hear you'll still pop in here from time to time :)

Have a good holiday,
Regards,
TE.

Dont fret FW, I was talking to a very talented artist a few weeks ago who stops painting for months on end and even a few years at one point. When you put so much into something its hard when you start to realise that you are trying your best to ignore flagging enthusiasm. But its a cyclic thing and maybe you'll be back sooner than you think, refreshed and hopping from stone to stone at the crack of dawn!

In the meantime if you find it impossible to stay away, a trip to Boleycarrigeen would be great if the need grabs you!

sorry to see you go! you're posting will be missed. soon as the mood hits again be sure to get back here!
Anita

Hey FW!
You will be missed matey!
I know what you mean though- although I still read TMA at least once a week, I only made my first visit in over a year to some sites last week. That's life I guess- work gets real busy, lotsa other things to see n do, but every now and again you get the feeling that you need to be somewhere ancient!

Cheers for now,
Martin

See ya 4W's. Keep on truckin' geezer.
