Sorry if this is a bit of topic for some lists, but just wondering if
anyone can assist in finding out more information on 2 ringforts that
are being excavated for a roads project.

The following description was just mailed to me:

"The two ringforts are situated on the N52 near Belvedere house beside
lough ennell, one is currently being excavated ,no doubt under the
rescue archaeology policy. These ringforts are quite substantial and
must be linked to important local heritage / history. The project is an
EUfunded upgrade of the existing road which managed to respectfully
skirt around the forts or this road is in existence since ancient
times. Either way the new roadworks should respect these forts. The
road goes between Mullingar and Dalystown which is very close to the
ancient mythological centre of Uisneach, a vast ceremonial complex of
earthworks ,stone circles ,standing stones ,including the famous
catstone reputedly the centre of Ireland ,where the five divisions
meet. Uisneach contains a fire temple and a horse temple, it was from
here that the laws were distributed by the druids to emissaries from
the five ancient provinces,in effect it is the true centre of ancient
Ireland and another sadly forgotten, and yet still not fully
understood, i would be convinced the ringforts on the N52 are part of
this vast sacred site.

I'm not too sure of the exact route for this road. I'll try and look it up and see if I can see which forts are likely candidates.

they're not planning to shortcut the road through the fort, surely?
