thanks for that Rhiannon, sounds interesting. having been there a few times (it's within cycling distance of here) I still haven't figured out exactly what it is

what's the book like, is it worth having?

cheers

Andy

I ned a bit of minor translation here,

"murdered for his poke o gowd"

'poke o gowd' = Bag of gold?

Hello Andy,

I think the book's quite good but for some reason they've chosen to make the text rather squashed up and I've found it hard to concentrate on. Could just be my eyes of course. McHardy (obviously a true Scot) retells the stories in a friendly fashion, and then there are more general things about kelpies, cailleachs and the like. It's got a few modern cartoony illustrations. I was drawn to it because a lot of the stories are pinned down to geographical areas or places. But as you know I'm not satisfied until I've got a six figure grid reference for a story (unreasonable I know).

He's written a number of books, perhaps you can get one from the library (I would say that as I am a library fiend). I would hazard a guess that you'd like it as after all it is your ancestry! and it's nice to have stories about places which you can retell to other people.
