Just thought I'd change the subject and apologise to FW for doubting that there were trout swimming at the bottom of wells, now found several references to them!.

" By a deep pool, called Fec's Pool, sat an old druid called Finn. Around the pool were nine hazel trees which were constantly dropping beautiful crimson hazelnuts into the water. These nuts contained all the all that was most bewitching and inspiring in literature and poetry, their red colour staining the surface of the water.
In this pool that was so deep that it almost touched the origins and springs of the world itself lurked 5 great sleek salmon, and when they leapt and turned in the air you could see the underside of their bellies speckled with shimmering crimson red stains. This was because they ate the nuts that fell into the water and so they became known as the 5 sacred Salmon of Wisdom or Inspiration...
The story goes on for it is not this old Finn that was to gain the wisdom of the fish but the young boy that was his companion Demna but who was also nicknamed Finn...
