Owned by Lord Anglesey... so that's why we were made to feel so unwelcome by some bloke with shotgun. Admittedly he didn't say or do anything, but I was glad to get back in the car.
On a dull day last August (06) we'd driven back down the lane from Bryn Celli Ddu & straight across the A4080. Turn 1st left through a gateway (well it didn't say 'Private Road') and I parked at the junction some 500 yards further on. On foot straight ahead on the clear path through the gate for about half a mile on the edge of some woods, and you can see the very large chambered cairn/barrow in the field on your right.
There are trees on top of the barrow, and it looks very forlorn, but its size alone (as big as West Kennett) suggests former glory. One broken down entrance still exists half way along the bottom side but no way in.
On our return to the car we were watched from the safety of his garden by the shotgun bloke. I would like to go back in drier weather to get a better look at the site, but need to persuade June & Sam they weren't gonna get shot!

Little Meg in hailing blizzard (until we made it back to the car & sun came out). Nevertheless, we (I) came up with a different theory this visit. Having visited Long Meg, think about the idea that its 'druids' had to apprentice somewhere. Then visit Little Meg, and consider if this could almost be a 'teaching' circle. I await comments!

My girlfriend & I both found this circle so cute, but masses of evidence the stones have been re-erected (& possible moved) over the years. Didn't notice any dogs, just evidence of the local riding stables trotting through! Beautiful clear day today. Even Isle of Man clearly visible from the hillside.
Notes on how to find the site:
From North - from the A5086 to Ennerdale Bridge, follow all signposts to Calder Bridge. Once you've past the turn to the stables and rise up onto the moor, circle is on your left right by the roadside. The road continues over the moor, dropping down to Sellafield (say a curse for me).
From South - from the A595 turn right as you approach Calder Bridge following the signposts to Ennerdale. This is a steep hill - cyclist beware - which takes you up over the moors. As you drop back down (after quite a few miles) the circle is on your right.
I believe there are toilets (at least an all day pub) in Ennerdale Bridge.

Two day whistle-stop Cumbrian tour which included Castlerigg & Blakeley Topping amongst others, but also taking my partner on her first visit to Long Meg. We had sun, sleet, snow, hail & thunder in the space of an hour.
But this visit I had a thought. Isn't Long Meg rather phallic? If the circle is female, having a phallic outlier (as many others including Nine Ladies & the 'King' stone on Stanton Moor) would seem quite natural to me.
Sad felled & cut tree at the bottom of the circle. May be storm damage, but very recent. The tree fall must have damaged the bottom stones though.
One note about toilets too. Back through Little Salkend to Langwathby (5 mins drive) is railway station (on Settle Carlisle line) Toilets (inc disabled there) although you will feel obliged to eat at the 'Brief Encounter' tea rooms. Worth it though.

Spent two very cold and very peaceful hours here this morning.
Only a couple of hikers wandered through in that time.
Sun shone through a 'Turner' sky, lighting up the snow covered tops of Skiddaw & her sisters.
Too cold for tourists, though I suppose having travelled 100 miles to get here, I am one of those.
My 4th visit, and can recommend turning up on a morning, and obviously out of season, if you want to just share this circle with the mountains & the sheep.
One of the best sites for scenery I've been to, and today was no exception (until the snow arrived, and I beat a hasty retreat).
A whole new meaning to the phrase 'chilled out' today.

I'm from Bratfud in Yorks.
Old punk rocker post 40, spending any of my limited spare time at some site or another.
Covered Yorkshire, expanded into Lancs/Cumbria & Derbys, and plan holidays which just happen to take us past one site or another.
Most impressed so far by Silbury, above all others, but Castlerigg & Long Meg have rare qualities too.
Will post some photos once I sort out the masses of discs I have with my camera.
