Like this stone a lot. It's stood here as Chipping Norton grew up around it and is ignored by everyone apart from TMAers. The chip shop round the corner is still good as well.

Since my last visit a fence has been placed around the barrow to protect it. Weeds and nettles are growing wild and slowly taking over. It looks great.
An information board has been placed nearby as well. All of this is a big improvement.

Just visited Rudston Monolith it's enormous. Whilst driving around came across a information panel at nearby Bracey Bridge and the marks on the side of the stone are fossilised Dinosaur footprints!
Do a great Bacon sandwich at Bracey Bridge as well.

Very close by there used to be a standing stone called The Row Riddy stone now long gone.
Also a few barrows have vanished over the years due to the sand quarrying industry I believe.

Just watched a DVD called Along The Ridgeway and one of the presenters gets a loud noise out of the Blowing stone.
He blows through the very small hole on the top of the stone, after a child shouts instructions from the window of one of the cottages.

The things you learn from this site.
I have been passing cup and saucer for about 23 years and have always thought what a weird name for a road, I had no idea there was a stone there.
It's a bit forlorn all by itself surrounded by houses, it wouldn't look out of place in a garden centre. It's strange to stand by the stone look up and see a massive tv in the house opposite showing the football.
However someone loves it, the saucer was full of Daffodills on my visit.

Bucks county council call this a Bronze Age burial mound on which a windmill was built.
I don't know if this is significant but it lies almost exactly opposite Danesborough Camp seven miles away on the Brickhills.
There are some old wooden planks on top partially buried, perhaps part of the windmill.
I seem to be following in the footsteps of Glennancy who visited these sites around MK eight years ago. Do you still come on here ?

Interesting place, the mounds are Romano-British but the whole site has a much older feel to it.
The notice board says that five roads used to meet at the crossing and the Romans built a temple on the riverbank. I suspect that all this activity took place on an exisiting site.
Anyway it was chucking down with rain today and the Mounds look a lot nicer when the suns out so I will come back and explore further in the Sping.

This is tough to find as the trees cover everything, incredible to think that MK is only about three miles away.
The trees in this area are fairly recent so I guess this was all downland when occupied and would have been a impressive sight.
You can wander around here for ages and not see a soul but you can sense them.

This is worth the walk from the Beacon car park as you get away from the crowds at the top of the hill.
Most people seem to be put off by the fence, although it has a stile, and don't cross the final few yards to the Barrow.
Sit for a while and you might see a herd of deer in the field below or just listen to the birds.

Whiteleaf Cross gets a mention in the Otway and Barrett song "Louise on a horse".
Not suprising as they come from Aylesbury.
