| Mine Howe most likely an antiquarian's translation as mami is from O.N. malmr 'metal ore'. Presenting a 1946 RCAMS report on the trial excavations (in The Orkney Miscellany) Marwick gives Moan Howie as the local name, moan meaning 'marsh'. |
