I parked my car in the small space on the verge of the road and started beaming like a fool as I approached the Tump (also known by the less romantic name of Uley Long Barrow). Although the mound is somewhat disfigured where it's been dug into, the entrance to the chamber is beautiful. Crawling under the huge slab of stone above the entrance I was immediately struck by the warmth and absolute stillness, a marked contrast from the gale blowing outside. Get someone to walk about on the mound while you're inside...the amplified thump of footsteps is fantastic!
