A new find from a few days ago bringing the total of marked rocks on this terrace above the River Garry to eight .Views are towards Ben Vrackie , Beinn a Ghlo and Beinn Dearg .
Interesting. At the risk of sounding a bit dim, would they have recognised limestone and known about the connection between it and soil fertility back then?
I imagine they would have had a good understanding of the different types of geology and recognised limestone as being distinct from other geologies , granites schists etc . It's impact on pH would have been appreciated (primarily by stock )but not necessarily understood causally . Very few limestone outcrops have engravings , even in araes where other rocks are engraved ,whether this was due to the realisation that it was likely to degrade or they were engraved and subsequently degraded is a puzzle .
