The Stone Circles Of Gambia

The two main areas are at Wassu and Lamin Koto and are now easier to get to as the road has now been upgraded from a dirt track to what looks like a road but that's about it. The sites are a bit of a teaser as they were thought to be from around 100BC but carbon 14 tests say the sites are from around 25BC - AD750. They are known to be burial sites but who built them is a mystery. The stones range from a height of 18" to 9ft tall and there are hundreds of stones in around 6-8 circles per site. Some circles have been lost and it is unkown how many there were originally.
