Tinto

Cairn(s)

Folklore

The mountain features in a traditional song called 'Tibbie Fowler':

Be a lassie e'er sae black
Gin she hae the penny siller,
Set her up on Tintock tap,
The wind will blaw a man till her.

Be a lassie e'er so fair,
An she want the penny siller,
A flie may fell her in the air,
Before a man be even'd till her.

(I hope a Scottish person can explain this?! Is it about only being marriageable if you're rich?? Is 'siller' silver?)

Aye, siller means silver. Dark-haired lassies with money are more successful in love than poor blondes appears to be the gist of it! nickbrand Posted by nickbrand
