Two Bronze age round barrows survive in the centre of Wold Newton. They were known locally as the Butt Hills - because they were used in medieval times as archery butts. Medieval ridge and furrow field strips in the area go around where both of the mounds were, confirming them as barrows rather than specially constructed archery mounds. The SMR info on Magic says the barrows survive pretty well despite later career change. They are near the mere in the centre of the village - a pond fed by the nearby Gypsey Race.
