Carn-y-Geifr

Round Cairn

Carn-y-Geifr (Round Cairn) by GLADMAN From the upper of Graig Ddu's trio of similar monuments.... the 'cairn of the goats' can be made out a little to the right of the light show.

No idea why it's associated with goats, though......... GLADMAN Posted by GLADMAN

I miss this place. I found Hafod stone pair a very interesting site too, just a bit further along the ridge to the West of the rainbow, just out of shot here. Posted by cerrig

Yeah. I was actually intending to visit those last year but my shins were a bit dodgy on the day, so diverted to Gro Hill instead.... still on the list. What was your route? GLADMAN Posted by GLADMAN

I've posted a Google Earth map with one route up onto the crest. You could head South West from Drum DDu to get there too. There is a standing stone and several fine cairns on the route I've shown, plus a few hidden away further South West.
Don't take any notice of Clwyd Powys map references for these. I think they made them up in the pub.

I should have said that you drive up from Llanwrthll as far as the tarmac will go before it turns into a rough track, now almost impassable thanks to our offroading friends.
This is a good base for Y Gamriw and Gorllwyn too.

Have you ever wandered up from Cwm Chwefri? GLADMAN Posted by GLADMAN

No I haven't. Those holiday cottages there look inviting. A good base for exploring. Posted by cerrig
