After a rain free visit to Mambury Rings we were not so lucky with the weather at Maiden Castle. By the time we got there it was Raining. Those of you that have been to the site will know that it is very expossed and open to the elements. We all disembarked from the coach and for the next hour and a half we walked around the site on a guided tour. This is one of the best Iron Age hillforts I have been to. The views of the surrounding landscape are very impresssive.. It is evident that this was a very important landscape during prehistoric times for on the horison one can make out many prehistoric barrows. If anybody has never been to an Iron Age hillfort then Maiden Castle is well worth a visit. From experience I reccommend that one does not go here when it is Raining for as I found out today you get rather wet very quickly Richard Hayward 24.11.00
