Stone Circle

Fieldnotes

Don't worry about the manicured nature of the site, everything about this circle still feels right (on), and despite their best efforts, everything in the curchyard is secondary to this fine RSC.

The outlier in the wood to the north, is a magnificent 8ft scarlet phallus, of such proudness it's enough to make your eyes water!

MIDMAR STONE CIRCLE AND BALBLAIR THE OUTLIER.

In the haar they seem to tremble,
dance with pleasure in the heat.

What are they waiting for,
what have they seen?

They have festivals and rituals:
that certain line-up of the sun
and moon, seasons
of harvest and burning stars.

Within the wood their god arises,
Phallus, impudent and proud.

From the birse trees to the circle
he will come and stake his claims.

And one by one these maids of stone
will take their turn recumbent
underneath the howling skies:
a midwife at their foot and at their head.
