Hi Roy, I think the result was that the mound wasn't prehistoric. I'm not sure what the conclusion was in terms of how it got there, although I do seem to remember something about waste from the road, as you've mentioned. I will try to find more info. I've just been checking it out myself but it all seems to have come to a grinding halt. Pete (Glastonbury) was really convinced it was something special and led the charge, so he must have been really disappointed. Yes, I met up with Pete for a walk around Avebury, this was many years ago, and remember him talking about it then. It seemed really promising and to look at some of the images of it you'd bet money on it being a silbury-in-construction.
